As the summer months seem to be on their approach, it might be our last chance to enjoy the cool and comfortable spring weather! We’ll also need to start getting ourselves in shape for the hot summer ahead. A great way to tend to both of those priorities is by going for a bike ride on one of Seoul’s many beautiful cycling routes! There are various routes that lead bicyclists along the glimmering Hangang River. They are rarely overcrowded, making them ideal for cycling enthusiasts, both professionals and beginners alike. One of the more stunning courses runs from Boramae Park all the way to Sebitseom Island, offering astonishing panoramic views, enchanting sites and an invigorating breeze from the river. This route should only take an hour of biking total, but the stops along the way are well worth taking the extra time to enjoy and relax.

Boramae Park

Boramae Park is a municipal park located on the former grounds of the Republic of Korea Air Force Academy. Today, the park boasts plenty of amenities, such as rest areas, walking trails, workout equipment, and playgrounds. There are relics spotted around the park, such as retired aircrafts, from when the park served as the academy grounds, as well as explanations and plaques that discuss the academy’s history and the park itself. In addition to its fascinating history, the horticulture and landscaping of Boramae Park adds to the natural beauty along the pond and biking trails, making it even more enjoyable for cyclists and joggers. Before moving on from the park, be sure to stop by one of the many cafes nearby for a quick snack to stay energized and focused for the rest of the cycling course!

Nodeul Island

Next stop on the route is Nodeul Island, sometimes referred to as Nodeulseom Island, and you’ll find it stretched out beneath the Hangangdaegyo Bridge. While crossing the bridge, cyclists can see downtown Seoul sit in perfect harmony with the glistening of the Hangang River. Nodeul Island is best to visit right before sunset with its spectacular view of the sun dipping below the horizon. The crystal clear sky in June reveals Namsan Seoul Tower, also known as N Seoul Tower, in the distance, which harmoniously blends with the wide and grassy terrain of Nodeul Island, truly evoking the natural charm that only Seoul could offer. As the 63 Square building is shimmering from the golden light of the setting sun and other visitors are hanging out with friends and family, the romantic ambiance of Nodeul Island is guaranteed to motivate cyclists to head out for the last stop of this cycling route to fit in one more ravishing site by the day’s end.

Sebitseom Island

Arriving at Sebitseom Island will mark the end of this extraordinary cycling route. The island functions as a cultural complex and landmark of Banpo Hangang Park. It is comprised of three islands: Chavit, Solvit, and Gavit. Sebitseom Island boasts fantastic night views as the colorful lights across the three islands illuminate the Hangang River, making a great photogenic landscape. In addition, the Banpodaegyo Bridge Moonlight Rainbow Fountain, which runs just east of the island, emits a beautiful fountain lit up with more than 200 colorful lights. The island offers plenty of attractions, such as retail shopping, delicious dining options and trendy nightlife destinations. It’s common to see people out enjoying one another’s company while taking advantage of the different amenities that the islands provide. After spending the day biking around Seoul, recharge yourself with a refreshing beverage at one of the hip spots on the island for a chill vibe that will surely top off your day of cycling adventures.
